Cheerleading fans in the Port City are getting something to cheer about.
Ten high school teams from across the province will be in Saint John this weekend for the Cheer to Win 2015 invitational competition. Saint John High, Simonds High, HarbourView High, Kennebecasis Valley High, Oromocto High, Carleton North High, Ecole Mathieu Martin, Bernice MacNaughton High, Harrison Trimble High, and Moncton High are the teams taking part.
Saint John High cheerleading coach Leanne Charleton says a lot of people have a stereotypical view of cheerleading which she says is unfortunate. She says it’s much more athletic than people think and once people see it they tend to reevaluate how they look at the athleticism of cheerleading.
Charleton says their competitive season ends on May 9 at UNBSJ for the provincials which is hosted by the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association. The Cheer to Win competition starts at 1pm Saturday with doors opening at 12:15 at Saint John High. The price of admission is $5.
