A diagnosis of cancer is always a tough time for patients and family members alike, but one bright spot will be the brand new state of the art oncology clinic at The Moncton Hospital.
The previous clinic was a cramped, outdated space on the sixth floor of the hospital, and Chief Oncologist Nizar Samad says the new clinic is a huge improvement.
“We are confident that it will empower us to provide our patient and their family with excellent quality service,” says Dr. Samad.
The new clinic is more than double the size of the old one at 17,200 square feet, and has 28 treatment stations, up from 16 in the old clinic. (Photo attached is the new treatment room)
The clinic has seen patient visits grow 10 percent each year since 2011 to the point where last year they had 12,700 visits. The new facility allows them to accommodate many more patient visits, and in considerably greater comfort.
The clinic will accept patients from anywhere they are referred, whether it’s out of province, or in province, and Dr. Samad says there is no discrimination against patients, anyone in need who is referred will be treated to the best of their ability.
Lillian Murray is a cancer patient at the clinic, who says “the new clinic will make the patients more comfortable, and give the staff the working space and conditions that they need to make their job easier and more enjoyable.”
The funding for the new clinic included $3.5 million dollars from the provincial government, and $6 million from The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.
