For the upcoming provincial election, Elections New Brunswick (ENB) is reintroducing voting stations to campuses.
The September 2020 election lacked a campus outreach program because of the pandemic and the shift to online learning, however, this time around, students will have the opportunity to vote at 14 different post-secondary institutions throughout the province.
“We want to make voting as accessible as possible for students, and I am glad we are making our return to New Brunswick’s campuses during this election,” said chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth.
“We look forward to working once again with the various student organizations on the campuses to promote our campus voting stations and the convenience they provide to students.”
Students can cast their vote at various campus locations, including:
- University of New Brunswick in Fredericton and Saint John
- Université de Moncton in Moncton, Edmundston, and Shippagan
- St. Thomas University
- Mount Allison University
- Crandall University
- Collège Communautaire du Nouveau Brunswick in Edmundston, Shippagan, and Dieppe
- New Brunswick Community College in Moncton, Fredericton, and Saint John
ENB officials said this year’s initiative will not only focus on a marketing campaign aimed at younger voters but will also allocate funds to student councils for hiring students as election ambassadors.
“The role of these ambassadors will be to raise excitement among the student population and create awareness on those campuses of when and where we will be coming to get their votes,” said Poffenroth.
From October 15 to 18, students can head to the campus voting stations to make their voices heard. They have the flexibility to vote for candidates in their home electoral districts or in the districts where they live during their studies.
Moreover, students can choose to vote at their designated polling locations or at any returning office.
