Benjamin Bilsky will have very little — if any — student debt when he graduates from the University of New Brunswick.
The St. Stephen High School graduate has received the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship, the university announced recently.
He is entering the bachelor of computer science program at the university’s Fredericton campus this fall.
“Bilsky’s outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements include self-taught skills in coding, a Unobskey Scholarship to the prestigious five-week summer session at the Phillips Academy in Massachusetts, and volunteer efforts with technology camps at his school,” said the release.
Schulich Leader Scholarships are awarded annually to 100 students enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or math program at one of 20 universities across Canada.
Every high school in Canada can submit one nominee per academic year based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership and financial need.
More than 1,400 students from across Canada were nominated for the award this year.
Another student at UNB Fredericton, Jacob Ledoux of Oromocto, has received the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. Ledoux is entering the bachelor of science in engineering program.
