An additional 200 residential units have been approved for Saint John.
Council approved the rezonings for a pair of multi-unit residential projects on Monday.
The first is a 180-unit development planned at 50 Heather Way, near Grandview Avenue, on the city’s east side.
Plans for the site include five 24-unit apartment buildings and 12 five-unit townhouses.
Bill Dunnett is also in the process of building 11 apartment buildings on the other side of Heather Way. Four buildings have already been completed with construction on the fifth underway.
Dunnett said they want to complete those buildings — which will likely take another five or six years — before starting to construct the apartments on the second site.
While the buildings on the initial site are being completed, he said, the plan is to start constructing around 10 townhouse units per year on the second site.
The second project, being undertaken by Housing New Brunswick, is a pair of 10-unit affordable buildings at 435 Woodward Avenue.
It is part of the province’s commitment to build 380 new public housing units over four years.
