Another New Brunswick cabinet minister and MLA resigned on Thursday ahead of the next election.
Mike Holland is transitioning to prepare for private-sector employment opportunities, according to a news release from the province.
“The last six years have been an incredible opportunity for myself and gave me the chance to do work that will live long beyond my time in office,” Holland said in the release.
“I am incredibly thankful to Premier Higgs for that and will always remember my time as a member of the legislative assembly fondly.”
Holland, who represented the riding of Albert, previously said he would not reoffer in the upcoming election.
His resignation means a cabinet shuffle, with two current ministers taking on Holland’s portfolios.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Ted Flemming will assume responsibility for natural resources and energy development.
Réjean Savoie, the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, will assume the additional responsibility for the Department of Indigenous Affairs.
The next provincial election will take place no later than Oct. 21.
