A woman is banned from owning animals for life after several dead horses were found on a central New Brunswick farm.
Charlotte Bright pleaded guilty to three animal welfare charges under the Criminal Code, according to the New Brunswick SPCA.
Animal protection officers responded to a complaint at a farm property in the Stanley area on April 8, 2023.
Officers found 12 dead horses and an aborted fetus, five underweight horses without fresh hay or water, and a barn in disrepair.
The live horses were seized and placed in foster care where they received veterinary care, proper feed, water and socialization/handling.
Numerous cats in the women’s care were also removed and taken to animal shelters and cat rescue organizations to be cared for and rehomed.
In addition to her lifetime ban on owning animals, Bright was also handed a two-year conditional sentence order and one year of probation.
She was also ordered to pay the New Brunswick SPCA more than $7,800 in restitution.
