More details have been released about disaster financial assistance for those affected by two winter storms.
Heavy rain on Feb. 28 and 29 caused significant flooding in the Sussex area and infrastructure damage across southern New Brunswick.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds during a separate storm on Dec. 18 and 19 led to elevated water levels along the coast and caused power outages and significant damage across the province.
Disaster financial assistance programs help pay for the basic costs of essential items not covered by insurance. Camps, cottages, boats, cars, trailers and yard cleanup are not eligible.
Individuals, small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and local governments are able to apply for assistance.
Those who have not already reported their damages must do so by calling Service New Brunswick at 1-888-298-8555 or registering online.
A disaster financial assistance package will be mailed to everyone who has registered damages. Application packages are also available online, but residents must still register.
The deadline for homeowners, small businesses and not-for-profit organizations to submit an application is Aug. 9.
A deductible will be applied to all claims. Residential and not-for-profit claimants are responsible for the first $1,000 and small businesses for the first $5,000 of their claim.
If insurance coverage was available and not purchased, the province said the claim will not be approved.
