Financial assistance is coming for New Brunswickers impacted by two storms over the winter.
The province announced Friday that disaster financial assistance programs had been approved.
Heavy rain on Feb. 28 and 29 caused significant flooding in the Sussex area and infrastructure damage across southern New Brunswick.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds during a separate storm on Dec. 18 and 19 led to elevated water levels along the coast and caused power outages and significant damage across the province.
Disaster financial assistance programs help pay for the basic costs of essential items not covered by insurance. Camps, cottages, boats, cars, trailers and yard cleanup are not eligible.
Individuals, small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and local governments are able to apply for assistance.
Officials said details regarding how to apply for disaster financial assistance will be announced soon.
Until then, residents should report damage to their insurance companies if they have not already, take photos of any damage, and keep receipts of any repairs and replacement purchases.
Residents should also log the number of hours of work they have undertaken to clean their property as well as those of family members who have helped.
