Fredericton police have made an arrest after a fire damaged a historic building in the city’s downtown.
First responders were called to the fire on Carleton Street in the historic Garrison District on March 12.
Firefighters found the back deck engulfed in flames with fire running up the walls and into the attic space.
The city was leasing the building from the Department of National Defence for tourism.

Shortly after the fire, police put out a call to the public on social media to help identify a person of interest.
“Tips from the public were able to help police in the investigation of the fire,” police said in a news release on Thursday.
“Footage captured on the City’s public safety cameras, as well as video captured by local downtown businesses, were also invaluable throughout the investigation.”
A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and is facing charges of arson with disregard for human life and breach of probation.
The accused remains in custody until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for a later date.
