The Saint John Police Force is launching an inclusion and diversity recruitment camp this spring.
It aims to provide underrepresented community members, such as women and newcomers, an opportunity to explore a career in policing.
“We are excited to launch the Inclusion and Diversity Recruitment Camp as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a police delivery model that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve,” said Chief Robert Bruce.
“By providing an inclusive platform for underrepresented individuals to explore policing careers, we aim to create a stronger, more representative police service that can better address the needs of our diverse community.”
Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca says attendees will meet with the recruitment team and can become sponsored for Atlantic Police Academy training, but there are still some tuition costs.
“The comfort is that they’re guaranteed employment at the end of the training, provided they pass everything and they’re successful at the police academy,” said Rocca.
Some of the qualifications include being at least 19 years of age, being an underrepresented community member, and having no previous history of applying for the Saint John Police Force Sponsorship Program.
The recruitment camp will take place at the Saint John Police Headquarters from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23.
