The UNB REDS are the first U Sports men’s hockey team to record a perfect regular season in more than 20 years.
UNB picked up a 9-1 home win over UPEI on Saturday to finish the regular season with 30 wins in 30 games.
They are the ninth team to record a perfect regular season in Canadian men’s university hockey history.
According to a UNB REDS spokesperson, the Western Mustangs were the last team to do so in 2002-03.
Saturday’s victory came just days after head coach Gardiner MacDougall reached a milestone of his own.
MacDougall won his 489th game last Tuesday, more than any other men’s hockey coach in U Sports.
Back in 2022, MacDougall spent five weeks as interim head coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs, guiding the host team to the Memorial Cup title.
Finishing atop the Atlantic University Sport standings, the REDS earn a first-round bye in the AUS playoffs and advance to the semi-finals.
