The East Coast Elite Baseball Academy (ECEBA) is currently setting up after-school programs in the Saint John region.
The academy was founded by Aaron Mckenna, who is a fan and player and wants to give kids in New Brunswick a chance to play baseball.
Mckenna said after-school programs will run from 2:45 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday for 10 weeks. The cost will be $250 with funding available through P.R.O. Kids.
The funding will go towards the cost of rental space, coaches, and equipment. Donations of used equipment will also be accepted.
“We’re gonna be working on the basic fundamentals of baseball. Pitching, hitting, and overall baseball awareness on the field, “said Mckenna.
“We’re trying to get kids into the game of baseball, kids that aren’t playing right now, reaching different types of ethnicities throughout the city, give them the opportunity to see if they like it, and possibly join the minor leagues around the city this summer.”
Mckenna said the main goal for this academy is getting underprivileged youth a chance to earn a college scholarship.
Academy players will have the chance to play in the New England Prep School Baseball League (NEPSBL) due to the high amount of scouting from colleges across the United States and having affiliations with the Major League Baseball (MLB) programs.
