Hours are being extended at New Brunswick’s emergency shelters due to the storm.
In Saint John, the men’s and women’s shelters on Waterloo Street and the youth shelter on Broad Street are now open 24/7, the province announced Wednesday.
The same goes for the recently-opened out-of-the-cold shelter on Somerset Street.
It will return to its regular hours of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the out-of-the-cold shelter on Union Street in St. Stephen is also open 24/7.
“We want to ensure everyone who needs them has access to safe, warm spaces,” Social Development Minister Jill Green said in a news release.
“I want to thank our operating partners in communities across the province for answering the need, especially during winter weather.”
The province has also expanded its outreach teams, which serve as a street presence for unsheltered people seeking support and services.
