The Anglophone South District Education Council (DEC) is growing this year.
A student representative is being added to give youth a greater voice at the district level.
“I borrowed a model that they were doing in Anglophone West by having a student leaders council,” Derek O’Brien, superintendent of the Anglophone South School District, said in an interview.
The council is made up of students representing each of the high schools in the district.
O’Brien said the council, which started its work last year, recommended the name of one of its members to be on the DEC.
“I’m very proud of that,” said the superintendent, who noted it will add more student voices to the district’s decision-making process.
The new student member is expected to be unveiled during January’s District Education Council meeting.
