A Maritime city is receiving some international attention from a U.S.-based media organization.
Saint John has been named one of the best 24 places to visit in 2024 by CNN Travel.
“So maybe it’s time to look at places that are still largely undiscovered, or alluring in the offseason, or frequently overlooked for their larger first cities or [neighbours],” said the article.
“Maybe it’s time to head to places that are making it easier for tourists to visit and those that pay close attention to encouraging tourism that’s sustainable.”
The article describes Saint John as a “charming little city” filled with historic architecture, such as the Saint John City Market.
It also highlights the Saint John Arts Centre set in the historic Carnegie Building, which is the only former Carnegie Library in eastern Canada.
“This charming little city is an excellent base from which to enjoy the nearby Bay of Fundy, famed for having the world’s highest tides,” said the article.
Saint John was the only Canadian destination to be listed as one of the best places to visit.
Other destinations include Greenland, Chile, South Korea, Morocco, and the south African country of Angola.
Jillian MacKinnon is vice-president of marketing, communications and strategic initiatives at Envision Saint John. As the region’s growth region, she said they are always pitching Greater Saint John to travel media.
“One of our key goals is to really amplify and elevate the amazing things that are happening in the Saint John region on a global stage,” said MacKinnon.
“To end up as the only Canadian destination on a CNN Travel list, that’s just perfection for us.”
MacKinnon said she hopes this will help bolster their efforts to attract visitors, as well as new residents and investment.
“I think we’re very, very fortunate to be the only city on the Bay of Fundy, which has the world’s highest tides. We are the perfect gateway to have that experience.”
CNN named our small city with a big heart as one of the best places to visit in 2024. We couldn't agree more. Saint John is a unique blend of history, culture, natural wonders & adventures, and the world is noticing!https://t.co/EE00SBvkeP pic.twitter.com/w6x9NbFleS
