A large volume of patients has the Horizon and Vitalité health networks asking the public to consider their options first before showing up at emergency departments.
The health networks say their priority is to care for trauma and critical care patients. Those with non-urgent medical issues will experience long wait times.
The public is encouraged to visit SoWhyWait.ca to help choose the best option for care, such as a pharmacist, primary health care provider, after-hours clinic, virtual care (such as eVisitNB.ca), Tele-Care 811, or the emergency department.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your local emergency department.
A reminder from the health networks that you must still self-screen for symptoms of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses before entering a facility. If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection in the past 10 days or if you’ve had a positive COVID test in the last 10 days, you should not visit.
