Residents in the Sussex area will have to wait a bit longer to see Old Saint Nick this year.
The annual Santa Claus parade, scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled to Dec. 9 due to the weather.
“We acknowledge it won’t be heavy rain however wet conditions take the fun out of being on a float and watching from the streets,” the town said in a Facebook post on Friday.
The town is gearing up for its largest parade, with just over 70 floats registered compared to the average of 50.
Community services officer Roberta Craft said the theme for this year’s parade is “Songs of Christmas.”
“Christmas parades aren’t really as enjoyable without music, so that was picked just for the fact that we love to hear and see music,” said Craft.
“We want the people to be able to stand and watch it, be able to dance and hum along to songs, so that’s exactly why it was picked. We’re not saying what you have to play or sing, we just want to be open for everyone to have a good time.”
The parade will start at the 8th Hussars Sports Centre at 6:30 p.m. It will travel along Main Street and end at Walmart.
There will also be a sensory-friendly section located near Sussex Elementary School in the area of Morrison Avenue and School Street.
