The Mariners Music Fest is returning to the grounds of Fundy Middle and High School in St. George.
It is a day-long event that will bring together nearly two dozen local performers for 11 continuous hours of music.
Wilfred Langmaid is a member of the first graduating class at Fundy High in 1978 and will serve as the musical host.
Langmaid said the event is designed to bring people together for a day of fun while raising much-needed funds for the Mariners Alumni Association.
“The association is trying to raise funds for the betterment of Fundy Middle and High School,” Langmaid said in an interview.
The alumni association awarded its first scholarship in June with funds it had raised at last year’s event, he said.
Langmaid said they were thrilled with the outcome of last year’s festival, with more than 300 people attending throughout the day.
In addition to the wide variety of music, there will be more activities for the entire family this year, he said.
“We recognized last year that we had some gaps,” said Langmaid. “We wanted to bring in people who otherwise wouldn’t come to a day-long music festival.”
This year will include a breakfast at The Hub and a community market at The Beacon, along with pony rides and hay rides at Matheson Farm.
An adult washer toss tournament will be also held adjacent to the main festival stage at the school, and Fundy Minor Basketball is hosting a 3-on-3 tournament.
Visitors will also find food stalls, a beer tent and a silent auction, along with a memorabilia display with items from the 1930s and onward.
The alumni association is being formed with the help of graduates of schools in St. George, Back Bay, and Blacks Harbour which were established before Fundy High.
Music will begin at noon on Aug. 12 and continue until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Kids under 10 are asked to bring a non-perishable donation to the food bank.
