A rash of break-ins has Saint John police warning people to take precautions.
Police said there were 28 break and enters reported between May 25 and June 22.
Twelve involved residential buildings, six were commercial, five were at construction sites, and five were outbuildings like sheds and garages.
“Tools are being targeted in many of these breaks,” police said in a news release on Wednesday.
Saint John police released a ‘heat map’ on Wednesday showing the general location of the incidents.
It shows a number of the break-ins occurred in the south central peninsula area of the city.
There was also a number on the lower west side, on the northern end of Douglas Avenue, and on the east side.
Saint John police also offered a number of proactive measures to help protect against break-ins:
- ensure valuables at construction sites and in outbuildings are securely stored;
- install burglar alarms, surveillance cameras and additional lighting in strategic areas to deter criminals;
- record serial numbers and mark valuables/tools with distinguishing marks so they can be identified; and
- report any suspicious activity to Saint John police by calling 506-648-3333.
