Four Special Olympics athletes are representing New Brunswick at the World Summer Games in Berlin.
They are Jesse Canney in swimming, Patti Connors in Athletics, Derrick Wiseman in Golf, and Shannon Doiron in ten-pin bowling.
Wiseman and Doiron are first-time athletes at the Summer Games, and Wiseman is also a first-time golfer from New Brunswick to compete.
Youth Coordinator Kate Maston says they arrived earlier this week, “Just to get used to the community and the country. They actually have had the opportunity to tour around to get familiar with things. It is also a great opportunity to interact with the other athletes.”
The games begin on June 17th.
“A big accomplishment just to get there, but to come home with a medal is even more exciting and an honour just to go and represent your country,” Maston says.
