New Brunswick Community College wants to bring hands-on skilled training opportunities to more people.
The community college launched a new 53-foot custom-built mobile learning trailer earlier this week.
It can be adapted to deliver training in various sectors, including health care, information technology and skilled trades.
The trailer also enhances apprenticeship opportunities and will serve as a new recruitment tool, the college said.
“The hands-on training and customized, on-demand programming that NBCC is so well known for is now mobile, anywhere in New Brunswick,” Mary Butler, president and CEO, said in a news release.
The new mobile training centre was unveiled in Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) on Wednesday morning.
NBCC received $2 million in funding from the provincial government and $350,000 from the federal government.
Partners in the private sector also contributed $440,000 to make the project a reality.
“Our province has a tremendous need for skilled workers, and this innovative learning concept will bring training directly to New Brunswickers,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder.
“We’re excited to see the benefits that this type of training will have on apprentices, newcomers, individuals residing in first nations communities and those residing in remote communities.”
