Big Brothers Big Sisters is bringing its new MEGABike fundraiser to New Brunswick next week.
The massive 29-seat bike will make stops in several communities, including Saint John and Dieppe.
Laurie Collins, executive director of the Saint John chapter, said they are still looking for people to sign up.
“It’s going to be a bit of a workout for some, and for others, maybe not so much of a workout,” said Collins.
“It’s a great time to get out in the community and enjoy some fresh air, and it’s a great team-building activity.”
A spokesperson for the Greater Moncton chapter confirmed it also still has seats available for the stop in Dieppe.
Collins said some of the organization’s major fundraisers, like Bowl for Kids’ Sake, had to be cancelled at the height of the pandemic.
When those fundraisers returned, she said they had to switch them up a bit to ensure they were still successful.
Collins said this fundraiser is also a chance to spread their message about the importance of volunteering as a mentor to a youngster in need.
“There are so many little waiting still for bigs,” said Collins about the need for more volunteers within the organization.
Collins said her chapter provides mentors for youth throughout Saint John, Kings and Charlotte counties.
The Greater Moncton chapter has seen the need for its programs more than double over the past year. Currently, more than 110 kids are waiting to be matched with a mentor.
Participation starts at $150 per person. You can sign up as an individual, with a small group, or buy out the whole bike for an hour.

The MEGABike will also be stopping in Woodstock on June 12 and Fredericton on June 13.
