Port Saint John has joined thousands of other companies in the United Nations Global Compact initiative.
The voluntary leadership platform is considered the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world.
It is a call to companies to align their operations and strategies with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
In addition to taking action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals.
“In line with our commitment to these principles, Port Saint John is proud to support the UN Global Compact which fully aligns with our corporate strategy and vision,” president and CEO Craig Bell Estabrooks said in a news release.
“We are on a journey to decarbonize and ensure that our operations have minimal impact on people and the planet, and that we are not only safe and efficient, but also mindful of the social and economic needs of our region as we build a world class port of choice.”
Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact has more than 18,000 companies and non-business signatories based in over 160 countries.
