Individuals who lived on a First Nation that had or has a long-term drinking water advisory for more than a year are encouraged to submit a claim for compensation.
The First Nations Drinking Water Settlement is available for individuals and includes additional compensation for health harms and specified injuries sustained by water advisories between November 20, 1995 and June 20, 2021.
Personal representatives can claim on behalf of eligible minors, those with mental incapacity and those who passed away on or after November 20, 2017.
The deadline to apply is March 7.
To support Claim Members navigate the claims process, additional information can be found on the website, as well as informative modules and a Claims Assessment Tool to direct you to the appropriate Claim Form.
The settlement is available to individuals and Band Councils.
There are certain eligibility requirements that must be met.
Courts approved the settlement between Canada and First Nations on December 22, 2021 as well as commitments to fund the construction, operation and maintenance of infrastructure needed to provide regular access to clean drinking water.
