An artist best known for his murals in the Sussex area has been chosen for the second Port Saint John Artist Residency.
Fred Harrison has been selected for the latest biennial artist residency at the Saint John Arts Centre.
Harrison will spend the next 10 months or so creating a series of original works. His works will be featured in an exhibition at the centre next September and October.
The residency and signature gallery is a partnership between the Saint John Arts Centre and Port Saint John.
“The aim of the residency is to support community and the arts while elevating profiles and opportunities for New Brunswick artists,” Paula Copeland, vice president of engagement and sustainability at Port Saint John, said in a news release.
Copeland said the Jury Selection Committee — made up of one rep from the Arts Centre and three from Port Saint John — was “highly impressed” with the calibre of artists who applied and the high quality of all 16 submissions.
Port Saint John was also impressed by Harrison’s scope and vision in creating this new body of work, she said.
“We look forward to working with Fred over the next ten months, and eventually seeing the work presented at Saint John Arts Centre in the gallery in September 2023,” said Copeland.
The next residency exhibition will occur in 2025.
