Construction of the IWK’s new pediatric emergency department is underway.
The new ER will include three triage rooms, 24 examination rooms, a CT scanner and a double ambulance bay.
This will create a larger, more modern emergency department, while providing physicians and staff with a better facility that better meets their needs.
“This important infrastructure will enhance the IWK emergency department’s ability to meet the demand for service and will help ensure high quality care for children and youth in our region.” Minister of Public Works Kim Masland explains.
Minister of Health and Wellness Michelle Thompson says the time is now to invest in a new emergency department to meet the current and future healthcare needs of families.
The hospital sees up to 100 emergency visits and 20 surgeries each day and the project will create a modern place for staff to work in.
This $102-million project is set to be finished in 2025.
