The Saint John Sea Dogs have named their 20th captain in franchise history.
Charlie DesRoches from Summerside, P.E.I., is entering his fifth season with Saint John.
DesRoches has scored 29 goals and 83 assists in 224 games with the Sea Dogs.
In a news release, DesRoches said he is excited to receive the captaincy from the team.
“It’s been an honour to play for this organization that has given me so much,” said DesRoches.
Joining DesRoches in this year’s leadership group are veterans Cam MacDonald, Connor Trenholm and Marshall Lessard, who will be assistant captains.
The Sea Dogs played their first game of the regular season on Sunday when they beat the host Acadie-Bathurst Titan 4-3.
Brady Burns had two goals, while Lessard and Peter Reynolds each had a goal.
The Sea Dogs will raise their 2022 Memorial Cup banner when they return to Saint John for the home opener on Saturday night against the Moncton Wildcats.
