New Brunswick will soon have 10 private retail cannabis stores.
They will be owned and operated privately but will offer several products sourced from Cannabis NB.
The 10 locations will be selected through a public tender process this fiscal year, according to the provincial agency.
“Those private retailers will still have to follow all federal and provincial regulations as we do, and they’ll wholesale their products through Cannabis NB, so they’ll be able to choose from a wide range of products, but all will be tested, regulated, and legal,” said Lara Wood, vice-president of operations for Cannabis NB.
“Those stores will be under their branding, but will be an authorized license legal retailer.”
Some of the communities included in the tender are Hampton, Saint Andrews, Grand Bay-Westfield, Chipman, Salisbury, and Bouctouche.
“They can also benefit from legal, safe, reliable product offerings, so we have started with 10 locations, but the plan is to evolve that and continue to grow that private retail network,” said Lori Stickles, president and CEO of Cannabis NB.
The private retail tender application process began on September 6.
