A minor cabinet shuffle on Wednesday will see two federal ministers from Ontario swap roles.
Helena Jaczek takes over from Filomena Tassi as Minister of Public Services and Procurement.
Tassi will take on Jaczek’s old role as the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
In a Facebook post, Tassi said she met with the Prime Minister last month “to discuss balancing the needs of my family with the travel demands on me as Minister.”
“Early last year, my husband suffered two strokes. As anyone whose family has had a similar experience will know, post-stroke care can be complex and filled with uncertainty,” Tassi wrote in the post.
Tassi said the new portfolio will allow her to remain closer to home to help care for her husband.
First elected to Parliament in 2015, Tassi was named Minister of Public Services and Procurement in October. She has previously served as Minister of Labour and Minister of Seniors.
Jaczek was first elected in 2019 and had held the role of the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario since October.
