A former Saint John Sea Dogs coach will now be behind the bench of another QMJHL League team.
Gordie Dwyer has been named the next head coach and general manager of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Dwyer has signed a four-year contract with the team, according to a news release issued Thursday.
“I’m honoured and excited for the opportunity presented to me to lead the Acadie-Bathurst Titan,” Dwyer said in the release.
“I’m thrilled about joining the organization, the community of Acadie-Bathurst and looking forward to a competitive training camp.”
Dwyer, who hails from Dalhousie, N.B., led the Sea Dogs to an impressive 47-17-1-3 during the last season, finishing third overall in league standings and second in the Maritimes Division.
But he was fired by the organization after the team was eliminated in the first round of the President Cup playoffs.
The Sea Dogs brought in University of New Brunswick men’s hockey head coach Gardiner MacDougall, who led the team to their first Memorial Cup since 2011.
However, he was only hired for the Memorial Cup tournament and returned to his job at the university.
Last week, the Sea Dogs announced that assistant coach Travis Crickard had been promoted to head coach.
