A historic church in Saint John’s north end is now nothing more than a pile of rubble.
Demolition of the former St. Peter’s Catholic Church has been ongoing for several days.
The century-old church on Clarendon Street held its final mass in August 2018.
It was one of nine churches closed as part of restructuring efforts by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint John.
There is no word at this point on what the plans are for the property going forward.
Also closed as part of the restructuring was the former St. John the Baptist Church on Broad Street uptown.
The owners of TimberTop Adventures in Dominion Park bought the church with plans to turn it into an indoor rock climbing gym, but those plans later fell through.
The church rectory was sold to Matthew Carr who plans to convert it into a five-unit residential building.
