Police say a person of interest in a shooting incident in northwestern New Brunswick has been arrested.
RCMP said early Thursday evening that the 28-year-old man was taken into custody without incident.
“The New Brunswick RCMP thanks the public for their assistance. The investigation is ongoing,” said a news release.
The man, who police said was considered armed and dangerous, was being sought following a shooting in Hillandale, near Perth-Andover.
Mounties said they responded to a call for shots fired near the intersection of Route 130 and Beacons Field Road around 11:20 a.m. Thursday.
“Police learned that an individual driving a white pickup truck pulled up to a man walking on the road and discharged a firearm at the man,” said the release.
The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. There is no update on his condition.
“This incident is believed to be isolated and both parties are known to each other. At this time, the incident does not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message,” said the release.
“The New Brunswick RCMP is always ready to issue an Alert Ready message should there be a need or there is an immediate risk to public safety.”
