New Brunswick seafood exports hauled in a record $2.2 billion in 2021, shipping products to 70 countries across the globe.
Supported by $1.2 billion in lobster sales, the province finished well over the pre-pandemic average of $1.7 billion.
Consumers in the United States, Europe, South Korea and China proved to be the largest fans of New Brunswick seafood products.
“To see an increase of $800 million in seafood exports over the previous year is incredible and sets another all-time record for New Brunswick,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Margaret Johnson said in a news release.
“Despite ongoing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am very proud our fish and seafood industries were able to pivot and refocus their marketing efforts, which have clearly paid off.”
New Brunswick hopes to continue its success through marketing strategies.
A new brand and logo have been developed for its food and beverage export markets called New Brunswick – Deliciously Canadian.
Through a partnership with celebrated Moncton chef and cookbook author Dennis Prescott, the province has rolled out a number of social media videos to promote New Brunswick.
The news release states the agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries industries deliver more than 50 products to local and export markets. They also employ more than 17,000 New Brunswickers in primary production and processing and are a significant economic contributor to many rural, coastal and Indigenous communities.
