Staff at the Magnetic Hill Zoo and Park are clearing away snow and ice as they get ready to reopen this weekend for their annual Sundays in March fundraiser.
Zoo director Jill Marvin says the late winter openings are a partnership with their volunteer group, the Friends of the Zoo.
“All the revenues that comes from the Sunday winter openings will go directly in our account to make improvements to our animal habitats,” she says.
Visitors will find a couple of new additions, two Arctic wolves which travelled from the Toronto Zoo in December.
Marvin says the animals will be turning two years old in April.
“Valentina and Viola are doing really, really well. We built them a habitat within the large habitat so that we could get our male Siku used to the two females.”
Since it is still winter, Marvin adds it’s too cold for the primates to be outside but two-thirds of the zoo will be open including exhibits featuring the winter hardy animals.
The first winter opening is this Sunday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and more details can be found HERE.
