Saint John police say no arrests have been made after a shooting in the city’s north end on Monday.
Officers received a 911 call about a shooting in the St. Paul Street area of the city just before 7:40 a.m.
Police said a 35-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
A nearby residence was secured while officers waited for members of the Emergency Tactical Services team to arrive.
Several officers with their guns drawn could be seen in front of a building at the end of St. Paul Street as police asked nearby residents to shelter in place.
A number of people were seen coming out of the building with their hands in the air. They were placed into handcuffs and into the back of police vehicles.
Officers also escorted at least two people from the building into the back of the armoured vehicle before taking them to a nearby vehicle.
Later in the day, our newsroom received reports of the police force’s armoured rescue vehicle being seen outside of a residence on Britain Street in the uptown.
Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca, a spokesperson for the force, said officers secured a residence on the street “believed to be associated to the investigation.”
“A search warrant will be executed at this location. No suspects have been arrested at this time,” Rocca said in an email Tuesday, adding that the victim remains in the hospital.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video surveillance to contact them at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers are 1-800-222-8477.
