Students at Mount Allison University now have a new online platform to report sexual violence on campus.
Mount A has partnered with an organization called REES (Respect, Educate, Empower Survivors) to provide this service.
Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator Dr. Tasia Alexopoulos says students can choose to begin a report to outline their experience.
“They can work on the report for as long as they like and they submit it when they want to – and if they want to. So they can also use this space as a narrative or journaling tool if they just want to write about their experience in a safe and secure place.”
Alexopoulos says if a student decides they want to share their experience, they would submit the report.
“They submit the report and it’s called ‘Connect to my Campus’ and it puts them in direct contact with the folks who are responsible for intake and disclosure on campus and that’s our student development counsellors.”
Alexopoulos adds counsellors would get an encrypted PDF and contact the student to discuss their options and if they want to move their complaint forward.
REES stands for Respect, Educate, and Empower Survivors and this is their first partnership with a university in New Brunswick to provide this service.
