Tent sites for the homeless will be closing in the coming days in Fredericton after a fire.
Fredericton Police Chief Roger Brown says a fire broke out on Tuesday night, as a result of a propane heater inside one of the tents.
Winds caused the fire to spread, and three tents were destroyed.
Brown adds that luckily no one was hurt, but at least five people lost all of their belongings.
He says there are risks involved with using unsafe heat sources in enclosed spaces., and luckily the fire wasn’t much more tragic.
Brown says the closure of the tent sites will help minimize the risks to individuals living there.
The Chief released a statement this week, to try and “Set the record straight about keeping the homeless safe.”
