Police say one person suffered minor injuries after an excavator fell through a building being demolished in uptown Saint John.
Sgt. Mike Damon with the Saint John Police Force said emergency crews were called to 222 Water Street around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
It was unclear at the time of the call whether the operator of the excavator was injured or still trapped in the vehicle, he said.
Damon said he arrived on the scene within a couple of minutes and learned the operator had made it out on his own with only minor injuries.
Several streets in the area were closed as emergency crews dealt with the incident, including Prince William, Water and Duke.
Water Street was already closed to through traffic between Duke and Prince William streets on Monday as the demolition took place.
Damon said the investigation will be handed over to officials at WorkSafeNB as there was no criminality involved.
