A fifth inpatient unit at the Moncton Hospital has reported a COVID-19 outbreak.
Horizon Health says three staff members in the COVID unit have tested positive and an investigation shows transmission occurred in the hospital setting.
The regional health authority says an outbreak is confirmed if two or more health care workers in the same department are identified as COVID-19 positive within 14 days and it’s determined the infection was acquired within the hospital setting and is not associated with travel or community.
Staff are being tested regularly and no further cases have been identified.
All inpatients in this unit are already COVID-19 positive and doing well.
Horizon says patients are being tested in other units for asymptomatic cases and none have been reported.
Officials say a total of 32 patients and 11 staff have tested positive in the Moncton Hospital’s five units with declared outbreaks which are Stroke and Family Medicine Unit (Unit 4600) (including patients from Unit 4400 – Rehabilitation, who have been transferred to this unit); Family Practice and Geriatric Unit (Unit 5100); and Family Medicine and Palliative Care Unit (Unit 3600).
