It is a place for patrons to play board games and card games in uptown Saint John.
The owners of Heroes’ Beacon Comics and Games purchased the building they operate out of on Charlotte Street and turned the second floor into a play space.
“We always had a play space at the bottom of the store, so now that we’ve bought the building we’ve renovated the second floor and moved all our play space up there,” said co-owner Chris Duffield.
There is a $5 drop-in fee and patrons have the option to play a board or card game from the Heroes’ Beacon library, or they can bring their own.
“Yea! They can play board games or card games, and in January we have a Super Smash Brothers group that will be joining us, so there will be a few video games,” mentioned Duffield.
So far, patrons have been quite enthusiastic about the new space, he said.
“It’s been encouraging for people to come in to ask about the space, or learn about what we’re doing … everybody has been enthusiastic about how the space looks, and how comfortable the seating is,” Duffield said.
Duffield added as soon as they are complete other renovations, private gaming rooms will be available.
Heroes’ Beacon is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
