Three more New Brunswickers have died as a result of COVID-19, Public Health announced on Wednesday.
A person in their 70s and another in their 80s in the Moncton zone have died, along with a person in their 80s in the Saint John zone.
Ninety-three new cases and 82 recoveries were added on Wednesday as the number of active cases climbed to 676.
There are 219 active cases of COVID-19 in the Moncton health zone and 182 in the Saint John area.
Sixty-seven people are in hospital, 15 require the services of an intensive care unit. Officials said 12 of those in the hospital are on ventilators.
Of those currently in the hospital, 27 of them contracted COVID-19 because of the outbreaks at hospitals in Moncton, Saint John, and Miramichi.
The rate of new cases is 4.4 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 2.7 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 20.6 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 4.9 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 16.1 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 22.9 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Among those in the ICU, the rates are 0.3 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 2.7 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 9.2 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Public Health said 81.7 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 86.8 per cent have received their first dose.
Case breakdown by region
The 24 new cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) are as follows:
- eight people 19 and under;
- three people 20-29;
- five people 30-39;
- five people 40-49;
- two people 50-59; and
- a person 70-79.
Fifteen cases are under investigation, eight cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases and one is travel-related.
The 26 new cases in Zone 2 (Saint John region) are as follows:
- two people 19 and under;
- six people 20-29;
- three people 30-39;
- seven people 40-49;
- a person 50-59;
- five people 60-69;
- a person 70-79; and
- a person 80-89.
Thirteen cases are under investigation and 13 cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
The 28 new cases in Zone 3 (Fredericton region) are as follows:
- ten people 19 and under;
- two people 20-29;
- three people 30-39;
- five people 40-49;
- four people 50-59;
- two people 60-69; and
- two people 70-79.
Twenty-three cases are under investigation and five cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
The six new cases in Zone 5 (Campbellton region) are as follows:
- three people 19 and under;
- two people 30-39; and
- a person 40-49.
Three cases are under investigation and three cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
The nine new cases in Zone 7 (Miramichi region) are as follows:
- three people 19 and under;
- two people 20-29;
- a person 50-59;
- a person 60-69; and
- two people 70-79.
Three cases are under investigation and six cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
