New Brunswick health officials reported one COVID-19-related death and 46 new cases of the virus on Monday.
A person in their 70s in the Moncton region has died as a result of COVID-19, according to Public Health.
New cases include 15 infections in the Moncton region, 10 in the Saint John region and nine in the Fredericton region.
Following 132 recoveries from the virus, the active caseload in the province falls to 706. This includes 241 active cases in the Moncton area, 165 active cases in the Saint John area and 158 active cases in the Fredericton area.
64 people are in hospital with COVID-19, including 17 people in intensive care. There is one person under 19 currently hospitalized.
“Though the number of people currently hospitalized is of concern, 23 individuals contracted COVID-19 while already in hospital for another reason,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health.
“Steps are being taken to ensure that the virus does not spread further in hospitals in Moncton and Saint John.”
Public Health reported that 2,991 children aged five to 11 have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
As of today, 81.6 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 86.5 per cent have received their first dose.
The decrease accounts for the children aged five to 11, who became eligible for the shot on Friday.
According to the COVID-19 dashboard, the rate of people hospitalized and in ICU, as well as new cases, continues to most greatly impact unvaccinated people.
The rate of new cases is 4.1 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 8.4 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 12.8 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 5.1 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 11.1 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 20.3 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Among those in the ICU, the rates are 0.7 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 2.8 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 9.0 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
