Canada Post has unveiled a stamp recognizing one of Canada’s most well known and admired authors.
Margaret Atwood burst onto the literary scene in the early 1960s, and has more than 50 works credited to her name including novels, short fiction, poetry, and children’s stories.
The stamp was designed by Steven Slipp and has a picture from renowned photographer Ruvem Afanador. It features the lines “A word after a word after a word is power” from Atwood’s poem Spelling.
She is often referred to as “the queen of CanLit” and has sold millions of books that have been translated into more than 30 languages. Arguably her most famous work, The Handmaid’s Tale, has been adapted into an Emmy Award winning television series.
Some of Atwood’s awards include the Giller Prize, two Booker Prizes, and the Franz Kafka International Literary Prize just to name a few.
She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and in 1981 was named a Companion of the Order of Canada.
The stamp and collectibles are available at canadapost.ca and postal outlets across Canada.
