Gentle Path Counselling Services kicked off its “Pathway to Hope” campaign Thursday, with a goal to secure 100 sponsored hours of mental healthcare for anyone in need.
The non-profit organization provides hope and healing opportunities through professional counselling and educational groups, regardless of financial means.
In 2020, Gentle Path provided over 1,200 subsidized counseling hours to people in need of immediate mental healthcare who otherwise wouldn’t have had access to it.
“What we’re doing with our “Pathway to Hope” campaign is we’re offering people not just a chance to give or donate, but you’re giving an hour of healing to someone in need, an hour that really could change their life,” says Executive Director, Trish Hamilton. “It’s a community issue, and we believe that it requires community solution.”
There are multiple options as to how people can donate: a $90 donation (sponsoring all expenses associated with one hour of counseling), $50 donation (covering the cost of a counselor for one hours), $25 donation (covering the admin costs of a one hour session), or $10 donation.
“One of the things about the pandemic that has helped to highlight mental health issues are the amount of people who are now coming out and speaking about it,” she said. “The more we talk about it, the more we come together, the more we understand it, the more we can do to help people get the care that they need.”
