A fundraiser is underway to inspire, equip, and revitalize Saint John neighborhoods.
The Saint John Tool Library has organized the Build Our Community Campaign 2021.
“It’s to raise support for the initiatives that we do every year,” said Brent Harris, executive director, Saint John Tool Library.
The campaign is divided into three categories: help, train, and support.
“In the help category, that’s our direct help … so that’s where we will do things like our community build where we rally volunteers to go help homeowners who are in a position of need, and need that support on a renovation,” mentioned Harris.
Under the support and train categories the Tool Library will connect organizations with tools, and space the library offers.
Harris mentioned the train category will also help the sawhorse program, which is a first-of-its-kind program in the city designed to work with people who have barriers to employment.
“This year alone, we’ve put 45 people who applied to the program into a 4-day module training program for the trades in four different areas of construction-related activity, and out of the 45 we were able to connect 20 of them with full-time work.”
“So, these would have been all people who would have had a barrier of employment of some sort, it includes all ages, newcomers, and everyone in between,” Harris said.
The goal for the fundraiser is $12,000, and so far, Harris mentioned they have already received several donations.
“We’re super happy to have Saint John Energy come through and they gave us a significant donation, and as did Port Saint John.”

The campaign ends on November 30, however, Harris added organizers will still accept donations after that date.
“We set ourselves a goal and a deadline so we could come up with some content and drive home that message and we also know there are other groups that do fundraisers around Christmas so we didn’t want to hog that spotlight.”
