Working hard to protect Canada’s native languages.
New Official Languages Minister, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, says she wants to give Indigenous languages support despite them not being considered an official language in Canada.
Petitpas Taylor said that she’s looking forward to working with other ministers to support them and their native languages, like Cree and Inuktitut, so they don’t get erased.
The minister has said that she’s worried that the French language is trending downwards across Canada. She wants to ensure Canadians are exposed to French throughout their lives, not just in a public school setting.
