A thumbs up for the city’s working plan from 2022 to 2023.
On Monday, Nov. 1, Saint John’s common council was presented the working plan.
The working plan is based on common council’s priorities, which were shared at a meeting in October.
City Manager, John Collin shared the presentation and mentioned there are too many initiatives to complete in one year.
“So, we must have a multi-year approach that’s not only to balance resources but for example to recognize the complexity of some of the initiatives.”
The plan is a tiered approach, with tier one being the priorities that can be completed by the end of 2022.
Priorities in tier one include a strategic communications plan, an affordable housing plan, and achieving collective agreements for Fire and Police, including, if necessary, binding arbitration.
Tier two are the initiatives that can be completed by the end of 2023, “and tier three will remain as resources permit, and when I speak about resources it can be time, people, money, or any combination thereof,” said Collin.
Some of the things in tier two include Fundy Quay – reconstruction and raising of the sea wall along with an extension of Harbour Passage and redevelopment of space at Market Slip, as well as finalizing a 15-year fire service strategy.
While tier-three includes, enhancing security at municipal facilities, and developing an Arena Strategy, after a strategic plan is completed.
The working plan for 2022 to 2023 was endorsed by council.
