The education minister urges students to stay engaged with their studies as they learn at home due to the CUPE strike.
Virtual learning will remain in place until the labour dispute is over.
Dominic Cardy says unfortunately compensation is not available for parents who work full-time and need daycare.
“This is the equivalent of other times when schools are closed for reasons beyond the control of the system itself. The strike has again put education into a difficult spot. I think the best we can all hope for is a quick resolution to the strike that is mutually agreeable to both sides.”
He recognizes that some students such as those with special needs can’t learn online.
Cardy admits virtual learning is not ideal but at this point it’s better than nothing.
He added the province has hired private custodians for those early learning centres which may share space with schools.
School custodians are among those on the CUPE picket lines this week along with school bus drivers and educational support staff.
