Rothesay Council was presented the town’s proposed operating budgets for 2022 on Monday.
Town treasurer Doug MacDonald presented the figures to council and mentioned the proposed property tax base is set to increase by 9.1 per cent, while the tax rate is set to decrease by four cents to $1.20 per $100 of assessment.
MacDonald also outlined the protective services budgets based on revised submissions.
“The police department increase is roughly 8.3 per cent, and the fire department is roughly 4.5 per cent, again, those are (the town’s) share of the combined police and fire budgets that have been presented previously.”
Also included in the draft budget is a $10 increase in the sewer rate, “from $400 to $410, but no change in the water usage rate, or the fixed water fee,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald added the town is proposing a three per cent increase in town payroll costs, based on a cost of living adjustment, as well as adding a couple of seasonal employees to the recreational department.
Council plans to approve the operating budgets at a November meeting. Rothesay’s total operating budget is $20,030,000.
